Following a cross functional internal promotion, we’re now looking for an experienced packaging development superstar to join our team in the permanent, full-time role of Senior Packaging Technologist. Reporting to our Packaging Innovation Manager, this role is part of our passionate Innovation Team working across our two manufacturing sites in Wiri and Papakura, South Auckland, New Zealand (free onsite parking and delicious snacks included) with the option of working from home a day or two per week.

Here at Griffin’s Snacks, we’re proud of our heritage and are New Zealand’s largest snack food company, producing many much-loved kiwi brands, including Griffin’s biscuits, Huntley & Palmers Crackers, Nice & Natural bars and ETA potato chips. As the business continues to grow and embark on significant capital investment within the automation and sustainability space, we’re on the hunt for a positive and driven team player to join us and play an active role in shaping this journey!

If you’re keen to be working on iconic products, ensuring they remain as favourites in pantries around New Zealand (and abroad!) then this could be the perfect opportunity for you! This role would have you managing multiple packaging development projects at both our Wiri and Papakura sites, across all product categories - from initiation through to commercialisation and project review, whilst working to take the wider team on the journey with you.

What would you be responsible for?
  • Supporting to execute the NPD plan, under the direction of the Packaging Innovation Manager and in consultation with the Marketing Manager
  • Developing packaging designs that are safe, effective and cost-efficient, from concept to commercialisation, on time and on budget
  • Supporting to scope packaging related capex and implications, building business cases for submission and working through implementation, commercialisation and budget management
  • Collaborating with and providing technical support to cross-functional teams to ensure the packaging meets marketing, regulatory, and operational requirements in a timely manner
  • Identify and execute cost out, continuous improvement and sustainability projects across our portfolio of products
  • Managing consumer packaging complaints and identifying improvements to reduce
  • Acting as a coach and mentor to more junior members of the team

Alongside a true passion for all things packaging and innovation, you will also bring the following to the role…
  • 5+ years’ packaging experience in large scale food manufacturing (2+ years within a senior position within this space)
  • Tertiary qualification in Science, Engineering, Food Technology or similar endorsements (qualifications in Packaging Development an advantage)
  • Ideally, you’ll have technical experience relevant to Griffin’s Snacks packaging types and substrates
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and relationship building skills, both with internal and external stakeholders
  • A real drive for results, respond quickly and work under pressure – yet able to have fun and a laugh with the team!
  • Strong analytical skillset with excellent attention to detail, allowing you to capture, analyse and validate data then translate this to practical solutions
  • Confidence in Power BI and Microsoft Office programmes ie: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Resilience, positivity and a solutions-focused approach- you see road bumps as a challenge, not a disaster!
  • Strong organizational and prioritising skills - in fact, these skills are so good, they make others green with envy
  • Willingness to share knowledge with wider team and also an openness to learn from others
  • Innovative and creative mindset– you’re not afraid to challenge the status quo and throw new ideas into the mix
  • Flexibility and agility - our industry is ever changing, and we need you to be able to move with it

What can you expect in return? In addition to a steady supply of snacks in the workplace, you can expect to be part of a supportive, purpose driven working environment where you'll feel valued, working with an inspiring leader and team, have flexible working options, commitment to our community partnerships and a focus on wellness (including annual wellbeing and volunteer days!)

If you have the experience we are looking for and are keen to join a company where you can have pride and passion in what you do
